For example, Wikipedia uses the internet to decentralize access information. It is instant and does not require any single authority to publish the content.

An example of a popular payment network today is PayPal. We rely on PayPal to maintain an up to date ledger of all transactions being made.

With a decentralized system, we count on a network of computers to maintain the ledger of transactions. By utilizing blockchain technology, 6,000 computers around the world are updating the ledger. Blockchain is a process to update a shared ledger.
